At Alpac Health Center, PET takes images of minute changes in the body’s metabolism caused by the growth of aberrant cells in a single continuous full-body scan (typically approximately 30 minutes), whereas CT scans allow clinicians to determine the specific location, size, and form of the sick tissue or tumour.
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computerised Tomography (CT) are both conventional imaging methods used by physicians to assess the presence of cancer in the body before making treatment recommendations.
Each imaging test has its own set of advantages and disadvantages, but when the findings of PET and CT scans are “fused” together, the combined picture gives comprehensive information on cancer location and metabolism.
What advantages does PET/CT offer?
